Saree, A Hindrance or a Source of Strength?

Let us close our eyes and visualize a garment in which we feel the most comfortable in.  Which garment would come to your mind? Well, it might be different for different people but I am sure that for most people it is certainly not going to be a saree. Isn’t it? Wonder Why?

Even though saree happens to be one of the oldest garments of the civilization, which was worn and loved when no other clothes were discovered by mankind, I fail to understand what makes it uncomfortable in the modern era?

Actually, it is all in the mind. We can show you some examples which will entirely change your perspective. We have curated a collection of sarees for the Yodhas (warriors) of today. These warriors are no one else but the women of today’s generation. Those who fight for good on a daily basis and even if there is a setback they keep on striving. A warrior for whom saree is not a hindrance but a medium of expressing oneself and making it armour that helps in conquering the world.

Meghdoot’s recently launched collection Yodha – The legendary ikat is curated for all the women with grace and strength like no other. Let’s explore more about the collection:

THE FABRIC

This collection is made from the finest quality of Eri handloom silk fabric which is one of a kind and has a muted luster and unparallel richness of silk saree.

THE TECHNIQUE

Ikat is said to be originated from Indonesia and the term itself means to bind. It is a dyeing technique of Indonesia where resist dying is performed on the yarn before dyeing and weaving it.

When it comes to India, Ikat has its own traditional values in different regions of the country. Pochampally, a village, just a few hundred kilometers from Hyderabad is called the Ikat capital of India. Whereas Odisha’s Ikat saree is made from a specific resist dyeing technique called Bandha ikat which is a signature style of the state. In Gujarat the famous patola sarees are made using the double dyeing technique where double ikat saree is woven together with mathematic precision to create an intricate design which can take days at a stretch to produce.

THE COLORS

In this collection you get to see the beauty of contrast colors in the motifs of Ikat that are artfully weaved in the sarees. A selection of beautiful dusky colors in shades of purple, greens, browns and black is picked to make the contrasts of the motif stand apart and create an artistic canvas of colors on the saree.
